It's Everything You Thought We Weren't
Exterior
Sculpted fenders
Up front, the bulging fenders have been sculpted to contain the wide 19" wheels and enhance the IS F's sleek aerodynamics. In addition, a vent at the rear of the fender helps suck hot air from the wheel well to aid brake cooling and help optimise stopping performance.
Aggressive front air dam
The front bumper and grille have been designed for maximum airflow into the engine, for improved cooling. In addition, lower air ducts on each side help redirect airflow across the brake discs and rotors, to help cool the brakes.
Aerodynamics and ground effects enhancements
The IS F not only slips along with an impressively low 0.30 coefficient of drag. As speed increases, so does the downforce. The underbody ground effects package which includes Formula One inspired composite farings optimised through extensive development and testing at Fuji Speedway.
Pipe quartet for a heavy metal sound
At the rear, quadruple tailpipes not only assert a distinctive look. Engineers have carefully tuned the exhaust note, ensuring the sound of the IS F at full throttle is unlike anything you'll hear on the streets.
19" BBS forged alloy wheels
Specialist wheel maker BBS, an official supplier to Formula One, has engineered wheels which are lighter than conventional alloys for reduced unsprung weight. The forging process ensures a denser alloy with optimum grain structure for incredible strength. These 8" wide front wheels and 9" rears even help push air across the brakes to aid cooling.
Headlights that can handle the corners
Fortunately the speed of light is able to keep up with the IS F. Powerful High Intensity Discharge (HID) low beams are redirected around sharp bends by a high response Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS). Remarkably, higher light output is achieved with lower power consumption.
A Smart Key Card for faster getaways
Gone is the conventional mechanical key. Instead a Smart Key Card, barely thicker than a credit card, allows you to unlock the doors by simply gripping the handle, without ever removing the card from your pocket. Once inside, you can start the vehicle at the touch of a button. A mechanical key is discretely concealed within the card, for emergency use.
Interior
Sports seats cornering support
Sculpted front and rear seating ensures maximum support when cornering at higher speeds. 8-way power adjustable front seats mean your perfect seat position is right at your fingertips, and can later be recalled via the memory switch. Front seats are heated for comfort in cooler conditions.
Ultra soft leather accented interior
Even the leather accented interior was finished through a more rigorous process, making it soft to the touch and supremely comfortable. Each seat bears the distinctive 'F' logo stitched in blue thread, reminding you of the IS F's origins at Fuji Speedway.
Glare free Optitron instrumentation
Whatever the ambient light conditions, Optitron instrumentation delivers information with optimum clarity.
Sports steering wheel
For a more gripping ride, the premium steering wheel feels more precise. The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system offers you a choice of 'Sports' and 'Normal' power assistance settings, for even more responsive feedback.
Paddle shifting for the control of a manual
With the transmission in either 'D' or 'M' mode, you can change gears like a manual, without your hands leaving the steering wheel. You can let the engine rev higher before up-shifting, or down shift sooner for increased engine braking effect. 'M' mode gives you all out sports performance with reduced shift shock for smoother acceleration.
Mark Levinson audio performance
With 14 speakers fed by a 300 watt, 10 channel amplifier, it's not just the engine that delivers a powerful sound. The audio system, by renowned audiophile designer Mark Levinson, boasts an in dash 6-disc CD/DVD changer that also lets you enjoy DVD movies while stationary. In addition, a USB connector provides the functionality for flash memory drives and full iPod®^ control via the EMV (Electro Multi Vision) touch screen.
Touch screen EMV display
The highly intuitive Electro Multi Vision (EMV) display on the console is your primary information resource. While extremely advanced, it is very simple to use. The 7 inch colour display lets you access many of the IS F's advanced systems, including the Satellite Navigation and inbuilt Bluetooth® technology.
Bluetooth® /MP3 player compatible
Having first registered your compatible Bluetooth® phone, you can make and receive calls via the EMV touch-screen display, via switches on the steering wheel or by simple voice commands. The audio system also allows you to plug in MP3/WMA-compatible portable media players.
DVD-based Satellite Navigation
To get you there via the most direct route, an advanced Satellite Navigation system is accessed by the EMV display. It displays visual maps or guides you via spoken commands so your eyes can remain fixed on the road ahead.
The Bluetooth® word mark is owned by Bluetooth SIG, Inc. Performance
The power of a race-built 5.0 V8
The entire top end of the engine was developed with race bred technology. Free breathing cylinder heads with large intake and exhaust ports ensure greater power output. Higher lift camshafts increase valve opening, and together with a larger diameter electronic throttle, allow the engine to gulp huge volumes of air.
Performance that really pumps
For durability, an oil scavenging pump (pure race bred technology) captures oil forced to one side of the engine by the high G-forces of fast cornering, and pumps it back into the sump.
Lower weight, higher revs with titanium valves
Conventional valves begin to 'float' at faster engine speeds, restricting ultimate performance so Lexus engineers installed larger titanium intake valves. This allows increased air and fuel into the cylinders and reduces heaviness so they perform better at higher engine speeds.
Dual VVTI optimises performance at all engine speeds
For enhanced output whatever the engine speed, the timing of both the intake and exhaust cams is continually retuned by Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). On the intake valves, Electric motor driven VVT-iE which responds much faster, delivering further gains in performance.
A free breathing dual intake system
A dual stage cold air intake optimises airflow into the engine according to engine revs. To increase air velocity into the cylinders at lower speeds for increased torque, only the primary intake is used. Above 3600 rpm, the larger secondary intake opens for increased high end performance, also contributing to the IS F's distinctive high speed howl.
Powerful race bred exhaust pitch
This is a Lexus unlike any you've ever heard. Its exhaust system was optimised for a crisp exhaust note at low to medium speeds. Then at higher speeds it unleashes a sound that is music to the ears of those who crave performance.
World's most advanced 8-speed transmission
The IS F is equipped with an 8-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission that upshifts in a mere 0.1 second, which is as fast as a manual in the hands of a top racing driver. Downshifts in a mere 0.3 seconds are accompanied by blips of the throttle (like a true race car) for smoother downshifting performance.
Sport shifting mode, a lexus first
Flick the toggle switch on the steering column and you've a choice of 3 shift settings, for ultimate smoothness or ultimate performance. In 'F-Sport' mode, the transmission works together with the VDIM, steering and engine controls, to deliver a crisp, high performance shifting performance.
Explore your limits with sports VDIM
You've the choice of three settings of the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM). When you want maximum assistance especially in challenging road conditions, 'Normal' mode improves performance and provides smoother behaviour at higher speeds. 'Sports' mode tailors the throttle, steering and suspension settings for crisper sports performance. Or switch the VDIM to 'Off' to take the I SF all the way to its dynamic limits.
Race tuned suspension settings
This is one high performance car you'll fell comfortable about driving day after day. Race track development work has resulted in firm spring settings and extra stiff dampers for flatter cornering. Multilink suspension front and rear adapts willingly to ever-changing road contours, for optimum grip with renowned Lexus levels of comfort and refinement.
Safety
Brembo brakes for ultimate stopping
An Official supplier to Formula One, Brembo, has engineered a braking system specifically for Lexus. Massive cross-drilled 360mm front disc employ 6-piston aluminium calipers for stable braking even from ultra high speeds. In the rear 345mm discs are coupled by 2-piston calipers. In addition, pillar type cooling fins aid cooling, for reduced brake fade during heavy braking.
ABS braking with brake assist
While Brembo provided the hardware, Lexus managed the software. Brake Assist is able to detect a sudden push on the wheel as an emergency braking situation and supplements your braking effort for improved braking response.
Pre-collision safety looks further ahead
When you are driving a vehicle engineered for higher speed, it's reassuring to have a Pre-Collision safety System (PCS) (2) aboard. A radar sensor in the front grille constantly scans for objects in front of the car. If the system determines that a collision with vehicles or objects ahead is unavoidable, split seconds before an accident it tightens the seatbelts and pre arms the brakes.
Active cruise control watches ahead
At highway speeds, Active Cruise Control (ACC) (3) utilises the radar sensor to monitor the road ahead. First, set your cruising speed via touch controls on the steering wheel. Then if the ACC detects another vehicle in your path, it slows down your vehicle and even applies the brakes if necessary. Your nominated speed is resumed once a safe following distance can be maintained.
(2) PCS is a driver assist technology and should not be used in place of safe driving practices. Drivers should continue to monitor road ahead.
(3) ACC is a driver assist technology and should not be used in place of safe driving practices. Drivers should continue to monitor road ahead.
